One topic that we consistently discuss with our customers is the matter of price. Is shopping for a new Patio Cover or Paving Stones the same process as buying a new car or refrigerator? Our society typically shops for goods and services using the principle that “the lowest price wins.” When shopping for a car, you’re looking for the lowest price on the same model at every local dealership, because you’re comparing “apples to apples.”
However, this philosophy does NOT apply to construction companies. Everyone has a budget, but when you’re talking about a permanent structure on your home; you want to make sure that you are going to get the best materials, the highest level of craftsmanship, and a stress free experience that will leave you feeling that you got your money’s worth. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of inexperienced contractors (licensed and unlicensed) submitting extremely low and unrealistic bids; which lowers the price point in the customer’s mind, creating an illusion that they can get the exact same job as a qualified company who is charging a reasonable price for a quality job. A quality company is Licensed, has Workman’s Compensation Insurance, Liability Insurance, is fully bonded, and has the experience and knowledge to complete any job professionally and to the customer’s satisfaction.
We strongly believe that the price of any construction project reflects the workmanship and the value of the finished result. If you’re merely looking for the lowest bid; than the old saying absolutely applies, “You Get What You Pay For.”
Give us your opinion on the subject! Do you think it’s a good idea to go with “the lowest bid?”
